A Better Education during the New Normal
A Better Education during the New Normal
Ever
since the Covid-19 has started, we have been living in the new normal. Work is
done from home, face to face learning is prohibited and the opening for public
schools had been pushed back all the way to October. And because of this, we
have no choice but to find different ways in order to continue our education
even in a pandemic. Various plans were made and different surveys were
conducted in order to make a better school life in the new normal.
If we were to choose which learning style is
better, we have to weigh the pros and cons of both modular and online learning.
The Pros of modular learning are; it can be flexible; students can set their
own schedule and learn in their own way. Contents are easier to understand
compared to books because it is simplified for easier learning. Students will
have a sense of responsibility when completing these modules. The cons of
modular learning; Transportation difficulties for parents and guardians. Some
students have a harder time understanding lessons. Some students also have
issues in finding resources. While the pros of Online Learning are; students
have a better learning experience through video calls and through virtual
learning. Allows teachers and students to communicate. Students may have better
understanding in lessons through online calls. The cons of online learning;
lack of access to technology, not everyone has the money to buy laptops or
cellphones. Lack of internet access aside from the lack of technology, some
students also cannot access the internet. Not everyone has the knowledge to
operate technological devices.
Now
that we’ve weighed out the pros and cons, I can say that Modular Learning is a
better learning style compared to online learning. Although it’s just a matter
of preference, Modular Learning is more helpful in continuing our education in
the new normal. Students can learn self-teaching and they also grow a sense of
responsibility. This learning style is also more stable than online learning,
considering that the internet speed of our country is still slow. Although we
are going through a difficult time as of now, I just hope that the situation
turns for the better so that we can return to our old life.
